Green Furlong Allotment Society

Annual Show

The heart of our year

Each September, we gather at the clubhouse to celebrate what the plots have grown. Vegetables, fruit, flowers, preserves and baking — judged by an invited panel, enjoyed by everyone, and crowned with rosettes and trophies that honour a year of soil, seed and care.

Open to all growers

Whether you've been on a plot for decades or this is your first season, there's a class for you. Plot holders and their families can enter. Come for the competition, stay for the community — and if you're not yet a member, come along as a visitor and see what we grow.

Show Categories

Classes for every kind of grower and every kind of harvest.

Vegetables

Tomatoes, beans, courgettes, root crops, leafy greens — the backbone of the allotment. Classes for single exhibits and mixed plates.

Fruit

Strawberries, raspberries, apples, pears and soft fruit grown on your plot. Judged on flavour, ripeness and presentation.

Cut Flowers

Dahlias, sunflowers, sweet peas and any bloom you've grown yourself. A chance to show off colour and arrangement.

Home Preserves & Baking

Jam, chutney, marmalade and cakes made with your own produce. Skill and taste on the bench.

Children's Class

Young growers get their own categories — anything they've grown or made. Encouragement and rosettes for every entry.

How to Enter

It's straightforward — anyone plot-holding at Green Furlong, plus their families, can take part.

Pick up an entry sheet

Available at the clubhouse and online from early September. Choose your classes and tell us what you're entering.

Grow and prepare

Tend your produce right up to show day. Judges look for quality, condition and honest growing — no shop-bought entries.

Bring it on the day

Entries are received in the morning before judging begins. Our panel — local growers and gardeners — will score everything fairly and openly.

Trophies & Recognition

Winners are crowned and remembered.

Category winners

Each class awards rosettes to first, second and third place. Winners hold the society's perpetual trophies for the year — a tradition that marks real achievement on the plot.

Grower of the Year

At the close of the show, we award the overall Grower of the Year — recognition that spans the whole day's judging and celebrates breadth, skill and the spirit of growing together.

Come Along

You don't need a plot to visit the show.

Open to everyone

The Annual Show is a village event. Walk around, chat with growers, see what a year of allotment work produces, and enjoy refreshments on the clubhouse lawn. It's how many people discover what Green Furlong is about.
